Women’s football to host two big 12 rivals as part of fall 2022 schedule

RIO GRANDE VALLEY — The University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced Wednesday that the women’s soccer team will host Kansas State on August 25 at 7:30 pm and TCU on August 28 at 12:00 pm at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex. as part of the autumn 2022 schedule for 20 matches.

“The real highlight is that we have two top 5 schools in TCU, a contender in the state, and Kanas State, which is falling,” UTRGV Head Coach. Mark Foster said. “It says a lot about our program and our facilities that schools are willing to come here and play. Hopefully we can give these two a chance to make some money and maybe upset one of them.”

Matches with Kansas State and TCU, which are the first time UTRGV hosts a top-five opponent since they hosted Miami in 2019, are two of UTRGV’s 12 home games and two of five consecutive home games early in the season.

The regular season kicks off on August 19 when UTRGV hosts the Texas A&M International, followed by the South Texas Showdown represented on August 21 by the Navy Army Community Credit Union’s home game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

After playing Kansas State and TCU on September 2, the Vaqueros will host South Texas to complete a five-game season before ending non-conference play at the Texas A&M-Corpus on September 4 and at the University. Texas, September 11th.

“We are very excited to start,” Foster said. “We can’t wait until August to start playing. We are in for a great season. We have 12 home games ahead of us and we hope that all our fans will come and cheer us on to get as many wins as possible. … I’m excited about the WAC. This will be a new league for me so I want to see what it entails. There are new locations and new teams to play, so I’m excited.”

The Western Athletic Conference roster includes 13 matches leading up to the WAC tournament, which will be held at UCLA from November 2-6, and the winner will automatically receive an entry into the NCAA tournament.

The Vaqueros opened the WAC home game on September 16 when they host the Grand Canyon, followed by a September 18 home game against the California Baptist. Vaqueros will also host Stephen F. Austin on September 30th, Lamar on October 2nd, Southern Utah on October 14th. , Utah Tech on October 16th and will close the regular season of Incarnate Word on October 29th.

UTRGV will head out to meet Utah Valley on September 22, Seattle U on September 24, Tarleton on October 7, Abilene Christian on October 9, Sam Houston on October 21 and New Mexico State on October 23.

The NCAA tournament kicks off November 18 at regional venues and concludes with the College Cup from December 2-4 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina.
