Every week, MobileSyrup describes some of the most famous films and TV shows that have recently appeared on Canadian streaming platforms.

Our Streaming in Canada column usually focuses on new content from Amazon Prime Video, Crave and Netflix, but other services such as Apple TV+ and Disney+ are mentioned as needed. Premium video-on-demand (PVOD) platforms are also fair game as films continue to be released digitally early amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, we will highlight shows or films produced by Canadian companies, featuring famous Canadian actors or crew, and/or filmed in Canada.


Amazon Prime Video

Lake [Amazon Original]

Gay attempts to reunite with his teenage daughter he gave up for adoption while at his family’s cottage, now owned by his half-sister.

Lake was created by Julian Doucet from Ottawa (Hudson and Rex) and Caledon stars, Jordan Gavaris of Ontario (Black orphan), Julia Stiles (Hustlers) and Madison Chamoun (Black). The series was also filmed in Northern Ontario.

Remarkably, Lake is Amazon’s first scripted Canadian series.
