SLU Releases Game Schedule Under Rookie Head Coach Gillespie

HAMMOND, La. – New Southeast Louisiana University Women’s Soccer Team Posts Fall 2022 Schedule, Freshman Head Coach Nathan Gillespie announced on Tuesday.

Lady Lyons (7-9-3, 4-5-3 Southland Conference) will turn to Gillespie replacing former SLU head coach Chris McBride, who is now UL Lafayette head coach, to get through a tough non-conference. timetable.

“The most important thing I look forward to before the conference is that the team is constantly competitive,” Gillespie said. “Regardless of the opponent, the desire to compete must remain the same. I think if we look at our non-conference games as well as our trade show, we’ll have a great group of opponents and a real schedule that can test our ability to compete on a consistent basis.”

The Southeast will play Mississippi State in an exhibition game on Sunday, August 14 in Starkville, Mississippi. SLU will open the season on Thursday, August 18 at 7:00 pm when they take Ole Miss out of the SEC onto the road in Oxford, Mississippi. As such, the Lady Lyons will have over a week before heading out to play against Jackson State of SWAC on Friday, August 26 at 1pm in Jackson, Mississippi.

SLU will open the home portion of their schedule on Friday, September 2 at 7:00 pm against South, another SWAC rival. After reopening their home, the Lady Lyons will head east to spend Sunday evening (September 4) with South Alabama at 1pm.

After a trip to the US, Southeastern will kick off a game against Nicholls at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 9, away in Thibodeau, Louisiana. The Lady Lions will wrap up their non-conference schedule on September 11th when they take on Lamar at home at 1pm.

The SLU conference list includes home games with Nicholls, HBU, Northwestern State, McNeese, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and new conference member Texas A&M-Commerce.

“The schedule is full of top-notch opponents,” Gillespie said. “Sunbelt Tournament Champions, a WAC Tournament Semifinalist and two teams from the same SWAC that were competitive and made the postseason last year. Not to mention all the new faces we’ll have. from the best teams in the country. The level of play we will face from day one will be extremely high, not to mention that most of them will be away games. Having such a competitive schedule with no conferences will help us prepare for the Southland.”
