NBA Thunder 2022 Trial Draft Results: Who will Oklahoma City pick as No. 2?

The NBA season is officially over and all eyes are on the upcoming game. NBA draft.

On Thursday, the Oklahoma City Thunder will receive the second overall pick in what will be the franchise’s most significant decision in years.

This will be the Thunder’s first top-three pick in the draft. since 2009when James Harden was chosen.

According to VegasInsider.comGonzaga’s Chet Holmgren is a -145 favorite for second overall behind Oklahoma City.

Let’s take a closer look at Holmgren and why he’s the perfect fit for the Thunder.

Physical characteristics:

Height: 7 feet 0 inches

Weight: 195 pounds

Wingspan: 7’6″

By all accounts, Holmgren showed himself to be the elite at two things during his only collegiate season. First, the seven-footer is an elite shot blocker.

Holmgren averaged 3.7 blocks per game, ranking first in the West Coast Conference and fourth in the nation.

NBA blocker leader Jaren Jackson Jr. averaged 2.3 blocks per game.

In addition, Holmgren has a good five, which is valuable in today’s NBA. As a freshman, he dropped 39% out of three, which was second on his team.

Holmgren was very effective, shooting 60% from the field and 71% from the free throw line.

The distance Holmgren could add to the Thunder’s offense would be perfect for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, one of the league’s best rim attackers.

Weak sides:

An obvious weakness in Holmgren’s analysis is his size, as weighing under 200 pounds isn’t ideal for an NBA starting center.

Especially when centers like Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic dominate opponents of the same size as them. However, as previously mentioned, Holmgren’s physique did not interfere with his defensive performance.

Not to mention, several players have undergone shocking body changes since joining the NBA. Giannis Antetokounmpo is a great example. He joined the league listed 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 196 pounds.

Now the Greek freak is 6 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 242 pounds. While Holmgren may not become as physically dominant as Antetokounmpo, expect him to become more prominent over the years.

Another weakness of Holmgren is assertiveness. Freshman Gonzaga often fell behind highly regarded seniors Drew Timm and Andrew Nembhard.

While it’s good that Holmgren never forced things offensively, he also never got the better of the game. Holmgren high season last year had 23 points, the season average for NBA stars.

Holmgren is undoubtedly one of the best players in this draft class and the best two-way player available. The versatile striker is a superstar in the making with no real ceiling.

As the betting favorite to be number two overall, Holmgren would be an immediate fit for the Thunder as their starting center.

DraftKings Holmgren at -165 to move to OKC.

If they decide to drop Holmgren, the other player in other World Wide Web tryouts who could potentially take OKC would be Jeremy Sochan.

Jeremy Sochan

Our very own Jinal Tailor thinks the Thunder can take Sochan because they desperately need a big wing that can defend multiple positions and play different defensive roles.

Sochan will solve this problem and allow the Thunder to play additional coverage in the pick-and-roll.

Oklahoma City had a lot of drops last year that kept the interior safe but ditched a ton of triples. Sochan’s size and ability at the point of attack would allow Thunder to switch more often and be more unpredictable.

DraftKings Sochan has +200 to enter the top 10.
