Meet the Des Moines Register 2022 All-Iowa Girls Soccer Selection
A few weeks ago, the Iowa high school girls’ football season ended, and the state tournament had a few surprises.
Ankeny Centennial led the undefeated Valley before beating Council Bluffs Lincoln for the Class 3A State Championship. Dallas Center-Grimes beat Waverly Shell Rock in Class 2A and Des Moines Christian held off Davenport Uspensky to claim the Class 1A state title.
And at the center of it all were some of Iowa’s most talented soccer players.
With that said, here are the Des Moines Register picks for All-Iowa Girls football teams. There are six elite team selections, six first team selections for each, and 13 honorable mentions.
The 2022 All-Iowa Elite Team features the best players of all classes. The selection was made based on regular season and state tournament results, as well as observations from USA TODAY Network employees in Iowa and feedback from high school coaches.
The names are listed in alphabetical order.
Elite Team
Jojo Bayes Sr., Norwalk
Scored 46 goals – fourth most in the state – and scored 103 points in 2022. Led Norwalk to a 17-4 overall record and a Class 2A state semi-final spot. Played well against Valley’s Anna Van Wyngarden in the regular season.
Ainsley Erzen Sr, Carlisle
Top 20 in the state with 71 points on 26 goals and 19 assists. An elite athlete in two sports, but helped Carlisle to a 13-3 record on the football field in 2022.
Alexa Johnson Sr, Spencer
Second in the state with 117 points and 56 goals. Added five assists in 18 starts for Spencer. Helped the Tigers secure a place in the 2022 State Tournament.
Camilla Landfair, Jr., Dyke-New Hartford
In 2022, she led all schoolgirl soccer players with 131 points. State leader with 59 goals and 13 extra assists, Landfair has scored five penalties this season. Helped Dyke New Hartford to a 16-2 overall record and an undefeated conference record.
Jasmine Moser Jr, Ankeny
Only two goals are allowed per 1,225 minutes played – one in the regular season against Ankeny Centennial and one in a 1-0 state semi-final that was won by Council Bluffs Lincoln. An absolute brick wall that led the Hawks to an 18-2 record in which all 18 wins were clean sheets.
Anna Van Wyngarden Sr., Valley
Several coaches named her the best girls soccer player currently in Iowa, which led to Valley posting an overall record of 19-1 and returning to the state tournament after winning the Class 3A in 2021. Fifth in class 3A with 59 points and seventh among all female soccer players with 22 goals.
