Where is Warren Jeffs now?

Warren Jeffs was convicted on two counts of child sexual abuse in 2011. At the time, Jeffs was already behind bars for being an accessory to rape, a crime for which he was convicted in 2007 after spending a year on the FBI’s most wanted list.

Jeffs is currently serving time at the Louis C Powledge Unit, a prison in Palestine, Texas. In 2011, he was given a life sentence plus 20 years. He will not be eligible for parole until July 2038.

In 2007, while in prison, Jeffs attempted to hang himself. He also took part in long hunger strikes. As a result, in 2009 a judge ordered that he be force-fed. In 2011, he was put into an induced coma after excessive fasting. In 2019, his own lawyers said that Jeffs had a “mental breakdown” and was unable to give admissible testimony in additional testimony about the alleged abuse of a minor child.

What happened to the FSPD?

FLDS is still running and according to one documentary released in 2018Warren Jeffs is allowed to visit family members in prison and still runs the cult.

Current members still regard Warren Jeffs as their prophet and believe that he was wrongly condemned. According to reports church membership ranges from 6,000 to 10,000.

What happened to Zion?

Longing for Zion Ranch, also known as the YFZ Ranch, was taken over by the state of Texas in 2014. It was a 1,700-acre ranch that housed over 700 FLDS members. After numerous raids on the ranch on April 17, 2014, Texas finally took physical possession of the ranch.

Where is the FLDS now based?

If you’ve watched the show, you know that the FLDS headquarters were originally located in Short Creek, Arizona. Following the takeover of the YFZ ranches, new church settlements were built in Pringle, South Dakota, Mancos, Colorado, Minot, North Dakota, and Grand Marais, Minnesota.

What has the Mormon Church said about Warren Jeffs and the FLDS?

In 2006, the Mormon Church sent out a statement saying that calling Warren Jeffs a Mormon was “misleading and inaccurate.” The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ended the practice of polygamy in 1890 with the Manifesto. In 1904, the second Manifesto established excommunication as a punishment for those who refused to stop the practice of polygamy.
