Hannah Dickinson, Lakeside multisport star in Seattle, was SBLive’s Senior Athlete of the Year in Class 3A.
Welcome to SBLive Washington’s ongoing tradition of honoring the 2021-22 WaFd Bank Senior Athletes of the Year for each classification.
With the SBLive team so immersed in certain sports seasons, it’s nice to take a step back to select the state award from a broader perspective.
The criteria are not too broad: the starting point is to look for seniors who are the best in two or more sports. The totality of the career is also a factor. As well as the recommendations of the administrator/coach/fan.
Enjoy as we honor some of Washington’s top multisport athletes!

It’s not just that the often-hanging home clothes provide lasting inspiration.
At every stage of youth football, Hannah Dickinson has proven to be an unstoppable goalkeeper force. She even earned a spot at the OL Reign Academy by working directly with former MLS goaltender Doug Herrick.
She could have easily quelled her high school track and field by enrolling at Seattle’s Lakeside and devoting herself to club football.
But these clothes…
Her father’s jacket.
“He’s littered with awards,” said Dickinson, a third-generation student-athlete from Lakeside. “I wanted to be the person who received 12 university letters. I wanted to be part of the cliché sports tradition… because high school sports are a different kind of connection.”
And Dickinson, a USC football player, did just that, earning 12 university degrees in football, basketball, and lacrosse.
And yet, despite all the preschool football awards, Dickinson had to wait her turn as a ninth grader, starting as a stand-in for sophomore Ashlyn Ryan.
“She didn’t like it and made a fuss about it,” said Lakeside girls’ football coach Derrek Falor, a former longtime college coach at WWU and Cleveland State. “She should have earned it.”
Later in the 2018 season, after Ryan was injured, Dickinson landed the lead role, and she never turned it down for the rest of her career.
A two-time Metro League Player of the Year, Dickinson was a key force behind the Lions’ run to the Class 3A championship last fall. She was also selected state MVP in the classification.
Falor praised Dickinson’s physical and ball distribution skills, but said that as an adult, her “leadership and defensive organization was at a very high level.”
“She has such an amazing athletic brain,” Falor said.
She also gets along very well with her family tradition in Lakeside. Her father, Chris, was a prominent basketball and football player in the early 1990s before moving to Princeton. And his brother, Jack, also played football for the Lions and is now a student at Williams College (mother, Ashley Robertson, was also an outstanding volleyball player at the University of Washington).
“I watched my brother play a lot,” Dickinson said. “And he has a letterman jacket.
“I want him and that was my goal in my freshman year. I just haven’t ordered it yet. But I’m going to get it so my kids can see it.”

Hannah Dickinson was a two-time Metro League Women’s Football Goalie MVP and was also named 3A Player of the Year last fall.
