Chelsea are reportedly eyeing Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling, but how will he fit in with the Blues?

As Raheem Sterling’s contract expires, the possibility that he could leave Manchester City is growing by the day. Chelsea could be his next destination. Blue think they can make a dealreports The Athletic. This is the second summer in a row that Sterling’s future is in the air. reportedly offered to Spurs as part of their pursuit of Harry Kane. It failed due to the lack of football in the Champions League, which would not have prevented a possible deal with Chelsea. According to the information, the deal for Chelsea will require about $73 million from them. Sky Sport.

Sterling scored 17 goals and provided another nine assists last season for the Premier League champions, but he extended periods of drought as stability was an issue for England. Sterling has a difficult legacy at Manchester City. Despite scoring 131 goals in 339 matches, the first thing that comes to mind are the goals he didn’t score, like against Lyon in the Champions League in 2020. Playing based on speed and beating the last man, Sterling can make the odds easier than the average forward has, but finishing was still the part of his game that was missing.

Between the Premier League and the Champions League games, Sterling scored 16 goals, which was a good result for a third team behind Riyad Mahrez and Kevin de Bruyne. But his expected performance was a whopping 18.95, which was the best on the team due to his accurate hit.

The Blues have a lot of work to do this summer. hope to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan, and Sterling can help. They also need to sign an almost entirely new defense as Antonio Ruediger has sealed his move to Spain and Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso could follow.

What will getting Sterling mean for Christian Pulisic?

Sterling has played in all three forwards throughout his career, but most of his minutes have been on the left flank, which was occupied by Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner last season. With Todd Boheli taking over, it’s unlikely the Americans will try to sell Pulisic, but signing Sterling will certainly bury him on the roster after a somewhat disappointing season in which he scored eight goals and provided five more assists.

Injuries kept Pulisic unavailable for 16 games last season, so coach Thomas Tuchel felt his best role was to change the game off the bench. It’s certainly not something Pulisic or US men’s team coach Gregg Berhalter would like to hear ahead of the Worlds, but if Pulsic is healthy, he’ll start on the left flank of Team USA in Qatar. There seems to be hope that, along with Lukaku’s move, Chelsea could also find a candidate for Timo Werner in the summer.

If Werner leaves, Sterling’s versatility could help him co-exist with Pulisic, as he can roll over to the right in a pinch, allowing Mason Mount to sit deeper. But if he’s still at Chelsea at the start of the season, it can be hard to find minutes as Tuchel changes squads depending on who’s popular at the moment. It is unlikely that Sterling will move to Chelsea without the guarantee of significant playing time, which makes it much more difficult to determine the rest of the attack as the Blues are expected to harass the striker.

Why would Chelsea look for Sterling?

Everything is uncertain here. While Chelsea need some help in attack as they can’t put all the creative pressure on full-backs and Mount, it seemed like the forward three had enough bodies to function. Hakim Ziyech, Lukaku and Werner have an uncertain future, but Armando Broja is an option to return from loan to Southampton and keeping Mount up front is an option with Conor Gallagher back from Crystal Palace.

As Chelsea look to close the gap between third and first place, replacing three or four players with Sterling is a risky proposition, even if other business is already underway. He’s good at creating his own chances with the ball at his feet and can be devastating with Rhys James and Ben Chilwell, but it could also end up being a slightly better situation for Werner. If Chelsea want to improve, Sterling doesn’t seem like a suitable target to turn their weakness into a strength. Robert Lewandowski does.

Is this the right move for Sterling?

If Sterling feels like he needs a change of scenery instead of signing a new contract with City, this could be the best option available in the Premier League, but there doesn’t seem to be a suitable fan base in England. Arsenal cannot provide the Champions League football it desires, Spurs cannot provide the starting minutes it wants and no one of real value should move to Manchester United until there is evidence that the situation is changing.

A move to La Liga maximizes Sterling’s strengths, allowing him to compete at the highest level. When Real Madrid missed out on Kylian Mbappé, Sterling’s move seemed like the logical next step, but there’s always a chance he’s enjoying life in England too much to risk a move to Los Blancos. But when it comes to playing time and the chance to win the Champions League title, all eyes should be on Real Madrid.
