Netflix TV Shows: Canceled or Renewed?

Awl Coming soon to Netflix. The streaming service has commissioned a dark comedy-thriller series about a group of podcasters who decide to investigate the murder of three people in a small Irish town. The series also stars Will Forte, Siobhan Cullen, Robin Cara, David Wilmot and Chris Whalley.

Netflix revealed more about the new series in a press release.

Netflix, Higher Ground and independent studio wiip today announced the cast of their first drama series BODKIN (wt), which will begin production next week in Ireland. Will Forte, Siobhan Cullen, Robin Cara, David Wilmot and Chris Whalley will star in the seven-episode dark comedy thriller.

Logline: BODKIN (wt) is a dark comedy thriller about a ragtag team of podcasters who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic coastal Irish town. But once they start pulling the strings, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they ever imagined. As our characters struggle to discern truth from fiction—about the case, about their colleagues, and, most painfully, about themselves—the series challenges our perceptions of truth and uncovers the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs or validate our fears.

Cast:

· Will Forte (Nebraska) Plays Gilbert: Charming, open and enthusiastic, Gilbert Power is an American podcaster looking for his next big story. Originally from Chicago, Gilbert’s family emigrated from Cork and hope to discover his Irish roots. Gilbert loves his job and, using his undeniable charm and natural warmth, uncovers the truth of history by gaining people’s trust and then weaving their memories, memories and theories into a compelling narrative. While his affect is innocent and charming, it’s clear there’s a lot more going on under the surface – something he hopes to avoid by coming to Ireland looking for material for his next podcast.

· Siobhan Cullen (Dry) plays Dove: Hailing from Dublin, Dove is a rocket looking for the truth. A solid investigative journalist with a finely tuned bullshit detector and a healthy disregard for authority and hypocrisy. People find Dove rude, “difficult”. But she believes she’s just telling the truth, which makes her completely blind to her own delusions and hypocrisy. She is funny too. And brave. And brilliant. She can also be extremely charming and persuasive. Unfortunately, she is going through the biggest professional crisis of her career, and when you live your life as a lone wolf, your career is usually all you have.

· Emmy plays Robin Cara (The Attempt): Smart, funny, and eager to please Emmy is the researcher who helps Gilbert start this podcast on T. But beneath her competent exterior, Emmy is visibly gnawed by insecurities, which she tries to hide with enthusiasm and comedy. Sandwiched between the blunt Dove and the laconic Gilbert, Emmy struggles to find her own voice.

· David Wilmot (Eleventh Station) plays Seamus Gallagher: Seamus carries the weight and presence of a man who was physically strong in his younger days. Agile and enigmatic, Seamus can turn on charms when it serves his needs, however, he can just as quickly erupt into violent outbursts when he feels threatened.

· Chris Whalley (Demeter’s Last Voyage) plays Sean O’Shea: Local to the village of Bodkin, Sean is a typical Irish country boy – helpless, ready to laugh and doesn’t seem too concerned with the obligations or responsibilities that usually come with adulthood. He’s also involved in some pretty shady business, and a situation where we find out he’s completely out of his mind.”

More details will be published later.
