Netflix confirmed that Awlnew series from Higher Ground Productions, coming after our exclusive coverage in May 2022. Now that the show’s cover has been lifted and some cast members have been announced, here’s everything we know so far about the Netflix series. Awl series.
As mentioned, we first reported on the series back on May 25, where we gave a general idea of who is involved in the project and what it is about.
Before we dive in, it’s worth noting that the title of the series is subject to change and Awl it’s just a working title for now.
Here’s what the series is about:
BODKIN is a dark comedy thriller about a ragtag team of programmers who set out to investigate the mysterious disappearance of three strangers in an idyllic Irish coastal town. But once they start pulling the strings, they discover a story much bigger and weirder than they ever imagined. As our characters struggle to discern truth from fiction—about the case, about their colleagues, and, most painfully, about themselves—the series challenges our perceptions of truth and uncovers the stories we tell ourselves to justify our beliefs or validate our fears.”
Who’s Behind Bodkin on Netflix?
Jez Scarf will serve as the series’ lead writer and will also serve as showrunner along with Alex Metcalfe.
The scarf is perhaps best known for its lettering on shorts, including Mr Cookie as well as Undream.
Metcalfe has worked on many high-profile projects, including as an executive producer The loudest voice and HBO sharp objects. He also co-produced the series Kingdom, which was released on Netflix worldwide after being licensed for a fixed period of time (the license was issued until May 2021).
Tonya Davis from Higher Ground Productions serves as an executive producer who has contributed to Higher Grounds Netflix production including We are the people, Waffles + Mochiand not yet released Rustin movie.
As already mentioned, Obama’s production company Higher Ground Productions is working on the project. They have a number of upcoming projects, but this is their first major drama series for Netflix.
Wild Atlantic Pictures and Wiip also joined the project as production companies.
Who stars in Netflix’s Bodkin?
Along with the June 17 announcement, first reported by Hollywood Reporterwe have received news of the first five casting calls for the project.
Will Forte (most famous McGruber as well as The last man on earth) will play Gilbert Power, described as “an American podcaster looking for his next big story. Hailing from Chicago, Gilbert’s family emigrated from Cork and hope to discover his Irish roots.”
Siobhan Cullen (most famous Dry), who at the beginning of the series is in a professional crisis. Her character is described as “a tenacious investigative journalist with a finely tuned bullshit detector and a healthy disregard for authority and hypocrisy”.
Robin Cara (most famous playing Kayla in Ackley Bridge) will play Emmy, a Gilbert podcast project researcher who makes sure everything runs smoothly. However, Emmy struggles to find her own voice.
David Wilmot (best known for Anna Karenina and the upcoming HBO Max series The Lies We Tell) will play Seamus Gallagher, a man who can turn on his charm when it serves his needs, but can just as quickly slip into violent outbursts when he feels threatened.
Finally we have Chris Walley (most famous Demeter’s last journey plays the role of Sean O’Shea, described as a local from the village of Bodkin and a typical Irish country boy. He is also involved in some rather dark business.
Where is Bodkin in production?
According to multiple production listings reviewed by What’s on Netflix, the project is set to begin on June 27 and shoot in Dublin and West Cork in Ireland.
West Cork, for those who don’t know, is a remote part of Ireland often referred to as one of the last bastions “Old Ireland”.
Southern Star in Ireland also informed that an open casting call for the production was held on June 14. They also cite that part of the filming will take place at Union Hall, as well as at Glandore for the seven-part contemporary drama.
Production will run until the end of the summer, ending between September and November 2022.
