It has now been confirmed that actor A. Martinez, who recently appeared in the Netflix series Queen of the South, will play Master Pakku, Aang’s waterbending instructor. The report was first announced Avatar News, and the actor himself later confirmed his casting by responding to an Instagram post on the same site. Martinez says that when he was cast for the show, he didn’t initially know what character he would end up playing. But after he looked at the image of the animated Pakku, he realized that his “intensive,” the serious appearance brought him this role. Martinez also praised him Avatar: The Last Airbender co-stars and the atmosphere on set, which made Pakku’s performance a rewarding experience. Martinez has reportedly already completed filming for his role. Take a look at Martinez’s comment below:

Appears in Season 1 Avatar: The Last Airbender In the animated series, Pakku is a waterbending master from the Northern Water Tribe that Aang is looking for. Sarcastic and sometimes ruthless, Pakku is a dedicated teacher who greatly values skill and strength. He strictly adheres to the traditions of his tribe, training only male waterbenders in combat, but after meeting Katara, he seeks to make an exception to the rule and agrees to be her master of waterbending as well. As the show progresses, Pakku marries Kanna and opens a school in the Southern Water Tribe that accepts both boys and girls. As a member of the Order of the White Lotus, Pakku eventually takes part in the liberation of Ba Sing Se.

As an Apache-Mexican actor with numerous daytime soap opera credits such as Main hospital, Days of our livesas well as Bold and beautiful, Martinez is an incredibly authentic choice for the stern and wise master of waterbending. Through Avatar: The Last Airbender, Pakku is shown to be stubborn but shrewd. Even judging by his appearance, which Martinez himself agrees with, the actor is perfect. Some may still doubt that the beloved animated film will turn into a live-action series, but the growing number of racially appropriate casting calls should ease at least some of those controversies as the show clearly tries to stay true to its source material. More details on Martinez’s look and portrayal as Pakku will become clear when Netflix kicks off its promotional campaign for Avatar: The Last Airbender series with live actors.
