2022 NBA Draft Rumors: Benedict Maturin Top 8? Kyrie Irving, Nets in dead end

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The rumor mill is humming ahead of the 2022 NBA draft.

The Warriors’ NBA Finals victory over the Celtics ends the NBA playoffs. They are now joining the league’s other 29 teams to focus on making decisions about their rosters for the 2022-23 season. With the draft set for Thursday, there’s plenty of time to shake things up before the first pick is announced.

Maturin won several times last season against Arizona, averaging 17.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals. He is a peppy scorer, a bit of a teenager at 6ft 6in and 210lbs, but obviously it is also considered a top eight castleaccording to Jonathan Wasserman of Bleacher Report.

“Teams don’t expect Benedict Maturin to beat the New Orleans Pelicans in 8th place.” Wasserman writes. “Most people in the league think he’ll be off the board by then at the latest.”

The Pelicans could use a backcourt partner the size of CJ McCollum, but Maturin will only be the answer if he gets past Sacramento, Detroit, Portland and Indiana. All four teams could find the Wildcats defender a good fit on the flank.

Kyrie Irving made it clear that he would like to be in Brooklyn will play Kevin Durant next season. However, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, contract negotiations between Irving and the Nets have reached a “dead end” and Irving may have to weigh his options.

Charania added that the Lakers, Clippers, and Knicks are among Irving’s top fans.. The seven-time All-Star could become a free agent in July if he decides to forfeit his $36.3 million player option. The player’s option also gives them important leverage to be in one of their preferred locations.

The Knicks are probably the only team that will make a move for Irving., according to CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn, as they are the only ones who can actually create cap space. The Lakers and Clippers will have to do some work on the salary cap for the numbers to work.

Grant’s appeal as a two-way forward who can switch to anyone is obvious. The names of the Portland Trail Blazers and Atlanta Hawks were up for potential touchdown spots for Grant.

Now another team has been added to this list. According to NBA insider Adam Borai, The Miami Heat are the most recent team to compete in the Grant.

Borai notes that “concerns about its renewal for the time being make it difficult for potential suitors to engage seriously with (Detriot).”

The Pistons can always keep Grant for a while if they can’t get the assets they’re looking for in return.
