MORGANTOWN, WV – After one of the most successful seasons in program history, director of athletics at West Virginia University. Shane Lyons announced the men’s football schedule for 2022.

Playing as an affiliate member of the Sun Belt Conference for the first time, the Climbers have 16 regular season games on the roster, including eight at Dick Dlesk Football Stadium in Morgantown. WVU will also host three pre-season exhibition competitions prior to the start of the campaign.

It should be noted that WVU will take on six opponents who have qualified for the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

“We are excited about the upcoming schedule and have no doubt that the strength of our opponents will really test our resolve and caliber,” WVU Coach. Dan Stratford said. “We look forward to settling into our new conference home and know we must be ready to compete at our best from day one. We can’t wait for the trials and we already feel the team’s optimism and anticipation for another historic season.”

The new season kicks off with an exhibition match at Duquesne on Friday, August 12 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From there, WVU is hosting Virginia Tech at the expo on Wednesday, August 17, in Morgantown. This is a rematch of last year’s NCAA Tournament in the second round. The preseason will end with a trip to Wake Forest on Saturday, August 20 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The Mountaineers will officially open the 2022 regular season at home against Robert Morris on Thursday, August 25. The team will then take on a pair of Keystone State opponents in Pitt (Monday, August 29) and Penn State (Friday, September 2). ) in Pittsburgh and University Park, Pennsylvania, respectively.

On Tuesday, September 6, WVU opens a three-match home stand against the American. Yale then visits Morgantown on Friday, September 9, followed by the climbers’ first ever “Sun Belt” competition against coastal Carolina on Friday, September 16.

On Monday, September 19, a series of three away games will begin in Portland. The Mountaineers will return East for a game against local and new conference rival Marshall on Saturday, September 24th in Huntington before heading to Dayton on Tuesday, September 9th. 27.

In a pair of Sunbelt clashes, West Virginia will play South Carolina at home on Saturday, October 1st and visit Old Dominion on Saturday, October 8th in Norfolk, Virginia.

A pair of mid-October home games will kick off with Lehigh on Tuesday, October 11 at DDSS before Kentucky visits Morgantown on Saturday, October 15 to kick off a four-match conference streak to close out the season. West Virginia also travels to Harrisonburg, Va. to face James Madison on Wednesday, October 19, host Georgia State on Sunday, October 23, and play South Georgia on Friday, October 28 in the regular season finale. in Statesboro.

All game information, including dates, times and venues, is subject to change. Ticket information for the 2022 campaign at Dick Dlesk Football Stadium will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Mountaineers went 12-3-6 last season to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1981. The team was ranked 8th in the United Soccer Coaches rankings, the highest result in the history of the poll.

The club also finished 8-0-3 at home, a good result for its first unbeaten DDSS campaign since 2007.
