11 of the best on-screen dads of recent times that are the perfect ode to fatherhood

This is one of my favorite lines in the movie and has stuck in my mind since I first saw the movie. We often lavish love and attention on our mothers, but we don’t usually lavish love on our fathers.

Fortunately, we can see changes in the characters of the fathers portrayed on the big screen. The story of the on-screen father has evolved from deeply divided responsibilities and patriarchal ideologies to more realistic and subtle aspects of fatherhood.

In honor of Father’s Day, we’ve compiled a list of the best on-screen dads:

1. Santosh Mishra, Gullak


The Mishra family is led by Santosh Mishra. As the leader of the family, he tries to meet the needs of everyone. And he works hard to overcome any difficulties he or his family may face. He is a typical Indian father who loves, cares for and provides for his family. At the same time, he has witty comebacks.

Usually children in an Indian family are afraid of at least one of the parents. In most cases, children are afraid of their father. “Home Shanti Home” doesn’t have that. Umesh Joshi, a forty-year-old father and husband from a middle-class family, is a cheerful, cheerful and supportive father. He is a poet by profession and at heart. One can truly admire him for playing the role of the perfect husband and supportive father.

3. Thomas Shelby, Peaky Blinders

In Peaky Blinders, Thomas, known as Tommy, has three children. He is a busy father who is trying to build an empire for his family. His eldest child is Duke’s son from a sexual partnership with Zelda. Charles Shelby, his son by his first wife Grace, is his second child. Finally, Tommy’s third child is Ruby Shelby, daughter of his second wife, Lizzie.

Tommy’s youngest son died as a result of a curse cast by Evadna Barwell due to a family feud. He kills Barwell because he learns in a rage that the truth about the curse is the cause of Ruby’s death.

4. Arjun Talwar, Jersey


Arjun, played by Shahid Kapoor, plays the role of a father in the movie Jersey. He tries to be present for his family and live up to his son’s expectations. He was Ranji’s cricketer but retired when he was younger. However, when his son asked him to return at the age of 36, he agreed. And he says, “Khelo na papa dil khol ke khelo”, this line from his son Kittu reinforces Arjun’s drive and motivation. The bond between father and son is friendly and Arjun loves his son more than anything.

5. Marty Bird, Ozark


Marty is a proud and encouraging father. Charlotte and John Beard are his two children. Jonah Byre, his youngest son, also follows in his father’s footsteps and launders money for Ruth, which makes Marty the happiest. He is the husband of Wendy Bird and a wonderful husband, so to speak. He supported Wendy even when she cheated on him.

Marty, despite being a criminal, is tough and collected, smart and loyal. He repeatedly demonstrated his devotion to his family. In the series, Ozark demonstrates that he will go to any lengths to keep them from being killed by the cartel.

Jaeshbhai Jordaar

Jayeshbhai is a hero to his daughter. Ranveer Singh plays Jayesh, a less educated but highly intelligent character. In order to save his unborn daughter, he goes to great lengths to ensure a better life for both of his daughters. He protects his family no matter what he goes through or what obstacles he faces.

He is a wonderful father who is very close to his daughter Siddi. He is a loving father to his child and a caring husband. Challenging all patriarchal thinking in the society in which he lives.

7. Pushkar Nath, The Kashmir Files

Anupam Kher plays Pushkar Nath, a teacher who was evicted from his home in Srinagar after his son was brutally murdered. He comes across as a well-informed and educated person. After all, he is a teacher!

After the murder of his son, he tries to fill the gap in the family by helping his daughter-in-law and grandchildren. He regularly makes sacrifices for the survival of his family; even in the rescue camp, when he was diagnosed with poor eyesight, he decided to save the money he had for the education and needs of his grandchildren.

Like grandfather and father-in-law, he was always there for them, even when his health suffered.

8. Bridge Gopal Sharma, Sharmaji Namkin

Sharmaji, played by Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal, has two sons, Rinku and Vincey. He shares his small house in West Delhi with them. The film delves into the dynamics of a single father and his children. Sharmaji loves to cook and loves to feed her kids their favorite meals. The film focuses on the individual self-expression of a father who is distant from his children, but at the same time devoted to them.

This single parenthood comedy is a joy to watch as it is an ode to all single dads.

9. Uhtred, The Last Kingdom


Uhtred and Gisela married and had three children: young Uhtred, Stiorra and Osbert. Unfortunately, his wife Gisela died in childbirth. Despite being raised by the Vikings as a fighter, he is a very loving father. He agreed to place his children under Alfred’s “guardianship” and have them baptized as Christians. And he encouraged both of his children, Young Uhtred, to pursue careers as Christian religious leaders. On the other hand, his daughter Stypeorra remained true to her mother’s Danish heritage.

10. Old father, dear father


Paresh Rawal plays Ajay’s elderly father in Dear Father. As usual, Paresh Rawal puts on an outstanding performance as the pushy, obnoxious and constantly meddling manipulative father. He plays an aimless retired old man who lives with his son and daughter-in-law, chatting about others and trying to fit into other people’s lives.

11. Vinod Khanna, Gerayan

Naseeruddin Shah portrays Aisha’s father, played by Deepika Padukone. He is a single father. He adores her daughter, but they have a strained relationship due to a misunderstanding that happened in their past. Despite the stress in their relationship, he always supported and respected his daughter’s decisions.
